2018 Parts Fest #1: Steve Guinness in space

Posted by Admin
We sent a varied selection of new LEGO® parts to some fan builders to explore techniques and models. This time we have the talented Steve Guinness: one half of the team who won Series 1 of Channel 4's LEGO Masters who now undertake commissions as The Brick Guys.

Clockwork Robots

When I saw the 1x3 jumper plate (Design ID 34103) I liked the unusual pattern on the underside, as it has no anti-studs or pegs. The tiny triangles reminded me of teeth so I came up with these Clockwork Robots.

They are loosely based on the LEGO Minifigure robots (from Series 6 and Series 11).

Each Robot uses six of the 1x3 jumper plates in Medium Stone Grey [TLG]/ Light Bluish Gray [BL] (Element ID 6211969) and they also use the new 1x2 rounded plate (Design ID 35480) as part of the clockwork key on the backs of the robots.

Hope you like them as much as they like each other!

Benny's micro boosters

I have found a fun use for the Transparent Yellow Infinity Stones (Element ID 6223002 | Design ID 36451), whilst still on the sprue. Around a year ago I made a micro scale version of Benny's Spaceship, and these now finish it off perfectly, providing enough power for it to boost into hyperspace!

The sprue ring fits snugly round an 18mm wheel hub (Design ID 55982), and to secure it in place I have used a Technic axle and bush, so there is no way it can fall off.
