2018 Parts Fest #2: Marcel V's Helmet, Kitchen and More

Posted by Elspeth De Montes
Our second guest builder taking part in our second 2018 Parts Fest is Marcel V, an excellent LEGO® builder from Germany with an eye for detail whose work is full of creative parts use. We posted him a selection of new LEGO parts last month and waited to see what would happen.

Yay, new elements to discover! Can’t wait to dive into it…

The first part that caught my eye, when I impatiently opened the mysterious New Elementary package, was the Black pantograph, 3.2 Shaft Element, No. 1 (Element ID 6226706 | Design ID 37494). It is quite unique, from its measurements to its overall appearance.

Basically, it’s a part consisting of various bars, so finding connections points isn’t too difficult. The length of the part is just short of a 1x4 plate.

I had some ideas popping up in my head. My first build uses just a single one of them as a part of a micro helicopter.

I‘m pretty sure this part will appear in various micro creations in the future due to its flexibility connection-wise, its unique shape and the small overall size.

Of course, the pantograph could also be combined with a variety of other Black parts to achieve some cool shapes. For my second build I connected it to another part with kind of an odd appearance, Black Fender, Front, No.1 (6207258|35654), with some Black Holder Ø3.2 W/Tube Ø3.2 Hole (6015891|11090).

I'm a passionate Fantasy Football Manager, so a caged helmet was the thing i wanted to go for while playing around with the parts. I’m pretty sure, this is just one out of dozens of possible variations you could connect this part with other Black bars and clips.

Notice the seamless white bar, where players are able to hook their jerseys on to? A pretty obvious use for the new White Candle No.1 (6234807|37762). Finally there is something which fills the gap between 3.18mm bars and 1x1 round bricks when it comes to diameter. The candle offers a short bar on the one side and a "anti-bar" gap on the other which makes it very easy to stack multiple copies of it. I just built a Reddish Brown wall missing one 1x1 brick and added a cheese slope in the gap. The remaining space fits the candle diameter neatly. Test it out, it’s perfectly sturdy!

My final build is mainly about showcasing the Black Lattice 2X6, W/ 3.2 Shaft, No. 1 (Element ID 6208551 | Design ID 35366) or as I like to call them, the “BrickNerd” part. Not too easy to build with as it’s five studs wide. Jumper plates help to get into System and make it look symmetrical in your builds.

As you can see, it’s possible to cram three plates and a tile into one of those squares without really stressing the material. I wanted to use the squares in another way and colour-wise, the Shurican Star Ø3,2 newly cast in Silver Metallic [TLG]/Flat Silver [BL] (6117255|19807) came in quite handy. Picturing the squares as a stove-top frame, the sprue parts (which have an anti-stud to connect) are just perfect to represent the metallic heating areas.

The unprinted Reddish Brown paint brush (6046576|93552) made a small appearance in my kitchen build, as handle of that pan.

I hope you enjoyed my contributions to the parts festival and are now inspired, maybe now you want to get your hands on some of the parts to build new amazing LEGO stuff?

  1. Cool! That kitchen is great, as is the helicopter! I was inspired by this parts fest to build a luggage cart using the Brickheadz glasses (https://www.flickr.com/photos/142810870@N08/46157801174/). Can't wait to see more builds using these pieces!

  2. Is that football helmet meant to have chibi proportions? The difference in size to the shirt is otherwise somewhat Jarring...

    2. I'm European and I've never visited an American Football locker room, so I just have to take your word for it.
