In May we spoke to LEGO® designer Marcos Bessa who leads the LEGO Jurassic World design team. He ran us through the four new sets that tie in with LEGO Jurassic World: The Legend of Isla Nublar, an animated 13-episode series which is a sequel to last year's LEGO Jurassic World: The Secret Exhibit.
Marcos: "For the LEGO® Jurassic World franchise in 2019 we have four novelty products coming out. These products are primarily based on new content we are doing with Universal. It expands the universe and takes place between the original trilogy and the first Jurassic World movie. The new park is already functioning, and Owen has just arrived at the park. We’ve seen in Jurassic World that he already has a history with Claire but what we are going to see in our TV series is how they actually build and develop that relationship."
75934 Dilophosaurus on the Loose
Marcos: "We are introducing a new young dilophosaurus to be able to offer more variety of dinos in lower price points, the entry points for young kids. In this scene the dilophosaurus has broken through, and a kid has no idea he is about to lose his popcorn. The story then shifts into a bit of a treasure hunt, which is something that is very tied to the content - there is treasure that certain characters are looking for."© The LEGO Group 2019 |

Marcos: "We’re bringing baryonyx into LEGO form for the first time so there’s a whole new head sculpt and a really shiny, cool decoration. In the story, this trailer will become the trailer that eventually Owen builds his cabin from. There’s a lot of history to this trailer in the content that you will see.© The LEGO Group 2019 |

75937 Triceratops Rampage
Marcos: "We’re bringing back a fan favourite, the triceratops, which hasn’t been in the market for a very long time. We’re trying it a bit brighter, a different colour from the other one which was the brown shades."We have a little ride; again, having a bit of fun with the park itself because of course it is an amusement park. The story here is that the power goes off and the fence that once was protecting the ride has fallen down and the dinosaurs are breaking loose. Owen has to recapture them… with a carrot, it’s a herbivorous dino!"

75938 T. rex vs Dino-Mech Battle
Marcos: "On the other side we’re bringing a new version of T. rex which is a bit dark and more scary, and that goes with a pretty bright and crazy dinosaur to try and balance that out. Plus a lot of cool elements and a pretty cool scene tapping an idea that there is some lava and a volcano; this is all taking place in the entry to a volcano on the island. There’s also a treasure play function under the mountain. The volcano we see in Jurassic World 2 actually erupts… it’s all connected. It’s fun to now be able to expand the universe.© The LEGO Group 2019 |
"There’s another connection to the original trilogy in the story here. There’s one particular character that comes into the show, Danny, who is a nod to a beloved character from the original franchise. I won’t spoil who he is related to. He takes things in a very crazy direction as you can see with this dino-mech! It also gives us an opportunity to be more creative within the universe and create some really exciting toys. Junya Suzuki built the first sketch of the dino-mech directly for the show so we went crazy making a really cool mech and then later thought, “what if made a really cool product out of it?” Because at first, nobody would think that you would see a dino-mech in the Jurassic World franchise, but this is an amazing opportunity for us to really push the boundary a little and make something that is an amazing toy."

really hoping they'll make some smaller Velociraptors like this Dilophosaurus, which would actually be in the same scale as the ones in the movies
ReplyDeleteBut not in scale with the new T-Rex!
DeleteNot that they were really trying to match the scale of the T-Rex to anything else. They were just going for "biggest T-Rex", and that was as big as they were able to achieve before it couldn't support its own weight. Still, it did make me curious if the new T-Rex is, purely by coincidence, in scale with the molded Velociraptor.
Has anyone used those dino-mech parts to build a ford explorer yet? Feels like they were created for that sole purpose if you ask me...
ReplyDeleteOhhh what a lovely idea!I hope it's TRUE!
