2019 Parts Fest #1: Sarah Beyer's microscale

Posted by Admin
Following her experiments with new LEGO® Technic parts, Sarah Beyer presents some microscale creations for our Parts Festival.

Last time I used Brick, Modified 1 x 1 x 2/3 No Studs, Curved Top (Design ID 49307) to create arm rests for a sofa. I believe that this "D brick" will fulfil many different purposes in coming sets and MOCs. Below, I've used it as the roof of a microscale train.

I then combined several of the Parts Festival elements to create a range of futuristic skyscrapers in an Arctic landscape.

The landscape is based on the 3x3 sloped wedges (42862 and 48165) and in the back row is Projectile Launcher 4 x 2 x 1 with Bottom Axle (Design ID 41812), functioning as horizontal watch towers. From there the villagers can spot unwelcome visitors!

On the left I've twisted several Arm with Technic Pin (28660) around a bar. On the ground, it’s attached between four studs using a telescope. I've partly overlapped the telescope with a Tile, Modified 2 x 2 with Large Hole (27448) to make a cleaner impression. A funny detail is that you can make the tower lean (like the Leaning Tower of Pisa) if you release it from the studs.

This "Arm Tower" is connected to another skyscraper created with eight crowns (39262) stacked on a bar. The crowns can´t be stacked on top of each other unless you use a bar like this or put a round 1x1 plate between them. They form interesting shapes when they are facing in different directions.

The skyscraper on the right is built by attaching seven Technic Axle with Rotation Clip (40144) to a bar. The clip fits perfectly around the tube of a 1x1 round plate, but is too large to be connected directly to the bar. I used 1x1 round plates with open stud to pin the axles together.
