LEGO® DOTS review: 41913 Bracelet Mega Pack

Posted by Admin
Andrew Barnick returns to review the latest wave of LEGO® DOTS sets for us and to highlight which parts come in new colours, starting with 41913 Bracelet Mega Pack which is available now priced £19.99 / $24.99 / 24.36€.

Both being fans of bright colors and of letting our LEGO® fandom show in our attire, my twin sister and I have been extremely excited about the LEGO DOTS theme ever since it was revealed. So when I was offered the chance to review some of the new Dots sets for this summer, I was extremely enthusiastic. For my first review, I’ll be covering 41913 Bracelet Mega Pack, which offers an abundance of what I love about the Dots theme—and yet which didn’t come without its share of disappointment, not to mention a little bit of mathematics. Read on to see what I’m talking about...

Bracelets? Let’s!

41913 Bracelet Mega Pack contains five bracelets:

  • 1x Dots Bracelet in Light Purple/ Bright Pink (6313562 | 66821)
  • 1x Dots Bracelet in Cool Yellow/ Bright Light Yellow (6313563 | 66821)
  • 1x Dots Bracelet in Spring Yellowish Green/ Yellowish Green (6313564 | 66821)
  • 1x Dots Bracelet in Aqua/ Light Aqua (6313565 | 66821)
  • 1x Dots Bracelet in Medium Lavender (6300085 | 66821)

Every one of these bracelets is brand-new for this set except the Medium Lavender one, which previously appeared in 41902 Sparkly Unicorn Bracelet. So far, between this mega pack and the eight currently revealed individual bracelets, this part has appeared in no fewer than 12 different colors—an impressive number of options this early in the theme’s lifespan, to be sure!

Someday My Prints Will Come...

When pictures of these new Dots sets first showed up online, several sites mixed up the image of the round printed “surprise charms” in this set and the square “surprise charms” in 41916 Extra Dots Series 2. Many commenters were disappointed to see one of the tiles from this set, mistakenly grouped with the pictures of the Extra Dots pack, labeled as “Super Rare”. Personally, I assumed that this mistake meant that the “super rare” label merely meant that the labeled tile was just an exclusive but consistent part of this set, as surely LEGO wouldn’t randomize the contents of a $25 set like they would an impulse-priced blind-bag set...

To my surprise and slight dismay, the printed “surprise charms” in this set are in fact randomized like the ones in the Extra Dots packs. This means that you aren’t guaranteed to get a full assortment of decorated tiles in any one set, including the “super rare” tile.

22 printed white 1x1 round tiles are included in this set—two sets of 10 plus one extra of each. To my surprise and slight disappointment, both sets of tiles do come randomized like the ones in the much smaller “Extra Dots” packs, meaning that no set will include the full range of available tiles.

The first assortment (6309192 | 67216) draws eleven tiles out of a total of 16 “heart pattern” tiles—but only 6 types of those patterns are unique. This assortment includes three tiles each of five colors of individual heart patterns with banners reading “BFF” and one each of the “super rare” tile with five hearts that is mentioned on the box. Luckily, with eleven draws, there’s a roughly 50% chance of getting the supposedly “super rare” tile in your set. Unluckily, these are the only ones in this assortment that I got:

  • 3x 1 x 1 Round Tiles with Bright Purple Heart and BFF Banner
  • 3x 1 x 1 Round Tiles with Flame Yellowish Orange Heart and BFF Banner
  • 3x 1 x 1 Round Tiles with Dark Azure Heart and BFF Banner
  • 2x 1 x 1 Round Tiles with Bright Bluish Green Heart and BFF Banner

Missing from the set were the following two tiles:

  • 1 x 1 Round Tile with Lavender Heart and BFF Banner
  • 1 x 1 Round Tile with 5 Multicolored Hearts

The second assortment (6309191 | 67217) like the assortments in the Extra Dots packs, draws eleven tiles from 16 different options. Interestingly, this means that the rarity of the “super rare” tile on the box art is actually the same as the rarity of any one of these options—it’s just offset by the “BFF hearts” being drawn more frequently from the assortment that includes it. These are the 11 tiles I obtained from this second assortment in my copy of the set:

  • 2x 1 x 1 Round Tiles with Popcorn Bucket
  • 2x 1 x 1 Round Tiles with Pizza Slice
  • 1x 1 x 1 Round Tile with Gold "1" Medal
  • 1x 1 x 1 Round Tile with Monkey Face
  • 1x 1 x 1 Round Tile with Steaming Cup of Tea
  • 1x 1 x 1 Round Tile with Sloth Face
  • 1x 1 x 1 Round Tile with Mustached Cactus
  • 1x 1 x 1 Round Tile with Party Popper
1x 1 x 1 Round Tile with Theater Masks

The following seven tiles from this assortment were not included in my set:

  • 1 x 1 Round Tile with “Classic Space” Spaceship
1 x 1 Round Tile with Blue Monster
1 x 1 Round Tile with Tiger Face
1 x 1 Tile with Panda Face
  • 1 x 1 Tile with Penguin
  • 1 x 1 Tile with Alpaca Face
  • 1 x 1 Tile with Pink Ribbon

When I first started reviewing this set I was disappointed by the randomization, especially since early on I had no way of knowing how many types of tiles I was missing or how rare the “super rare” tile would actually be. However, once I started analyzing it I determined a pattern, which was confirmed by the set inventory published on Brickset. Knowing the odds are similar to those in the Extra Dots packs, it seems like a passionate Dots fan could get a full set of tiles in two or three copies of the sets. Obviously for somebody who just wants a particular tile (like the “Classic Spaceship” tile that may appeal particularly to space fans), buying one secondhand would be much easier and more reliable than than taking the chance on a $25 set like this, let alone doubling or tripling up on it for better odds. But for a fan of the Dots theme itself and its customizable appeal, the additional bracelets and wide array of other colored tiles in the set could be more than worth it.

Extra, Extra!

As with all Dots sets, the fact that the Dots themselves are all 1x1 or smaller means that pretty much every type of tile comes as an extra in addition to the inventoried quantity! Not pictured here are the two extra printed tiles, which I included with the other printed tiles above since the extras are also part of the random selection.

Dots in Action

Dots sets, unlike your typical LEGO set, rarely include instructions beyond what you need to start customizing. A review of a Dots set wouldn’t be complete without some examples of what you can do with it. With five total bracelets and over 300 tiles, this single set offers more options than pretty much any other set in the theme! Here are five different bracelets I made with this set, to hopefully show the kind of variety of patterns you can come up with!

All in all, despite the disappointment in the randomness of the printed tiles, this set more than makes up for it in the quantity and variety of the bracelets and colored tiles themselves. I would highly recommend this set to any fan of Dots, especially families who want a shared set of bracelets, adult fans for whom a single bracelet doesn’t fit on its own, and any collector looking to massively augment their collection of 1x1 tiles. I’ve still got more Dots reviews on the way, so I’ll see you next time!

  1. I agree the set is too big/expensive for the surprise tiles. I went for the easy option and got all prints and new colors through BrickLink for my 1x1 Tile collection. I didn't anticipate the DOTS theme when I started collecting ;-)

  2. I bought 30 of the printed tiles off Bricks&Pieces and got lucky enough to get 1 of the super rare tiles. Not sure what I'll do with the other 29 regular BFF tiles...

  3. This comment might have been a bit played out by now, but I figured Zander's limerick could have the word "pretty" substituted for "jiggy" ...
