LEGO® Friends: new parts for June 2024

Posted by tobymac

Summer is coming (for the northern hemisphere); often a time for vacation. The June 2024 LEGO® Friends wave offers several forms of relaxation, with sets taking us to an adventure camp, the beach, a water park and a Bed and Breakfast in an old castle. If you don't have time off though, you can still grab a pastry at the café.

LEGO has sent us most of the wave for an early peek. Before I take a closer look at the sets themselves, I’ve gathered all new elements found across the whole wave in this overview for you.

Products in this article were gifted by The LEGO Group; the author's opinions are their own.

New molds

Flag 2 x 4 Triangle (part 5555)

The first mold we examine is a newly shaped flag: Flag 2 x 4 Triangle in Tan (6475813 | 5555) is used in the four "Adventure Camp" sets (1x in 426224262442626 and 2x in 42631) as the camp banner.

(Just a side-note: that mold number creates a nice amount of dopamine in my brain. Not only is it all the same digit, but it also links the LEGO Friends theme to Star Wars via Arc Trooper Fives.)

Based upon my recollections of my trigonometry lessons from 28 years ago, the measurements result in a point of 28°, making it impossible to create a fully closed circle from them. But if you can accept a small gap of 2° between the parts, it would be possible to use 12 to form a dodecagon.

The 1:4 ratio means the flag fits perfectly in between wedged elements such as Plate Angled 2 x 4 (41769 and 41770) as seen above in yellow, and Wedge 6 x 2, depicted here in dark blue with the inverted versions (41764 and 41765).

I couldn’t find sloped bricks to match. Shown above are the closest matches: Slope 18° 4 x 1 (60477), Brick Sloped 1 x 6 x 1 with 1 x 2 x ⅓ Cutout (4569) and Wedge Sloped 1 x 5 x 1⅓ (3388 and 3389). Let me know if I’ve overlooked any other bricks that might work.

All-Terrain Bike (part 5554)

The adventure camps are set in the forest, far away from paved roads. This calls for a beefed-up version of the bicycle frame, able to handle rough terrain.

Set 42624 introduces Bicycle Frame, All-Terrain in Orange (6475812 | 5554) and Medium Azure (6495221 | 5554). The frame fits Wheel Centre 15 x 6 City Motorcycle (50862), and Handlebars with Angular Handles (98397) to steer.

I don’t remember seeing the frame in other June 2024 sets, but they do work for both minifigures and minidolls, so I expect the mold will be used in other themes with time.

Busy Beaver (part 5553)

The last (non-figure) new mold is a cute one: Animal, Beaver, Sitting (5553). It just looks amazing, and we get 2 in set 42631, in Reddish Brown with print (6480961).

It’s a wonderful design, but the printing on the teeth leaves a reddish brown border around the white. Aesthetically, a dual molding process with white ABS for the teeth would look much better, but that would also make the mold more complicated, and with that, more expensive.

Recolors

The LEGO Friends theme is revered for its colorful models, and that is reflected in the quantity of recolors found across these sets. Bear with me, this section is a bit long, but exciting.

Decorated elements

Aside from being colorful, LEGO Friends sets are also often rich in decorations. A lot of these come in the form of stickers, but there are more than enough new printed elements to be found as well. I’ll leave the heads, torsos and legs for the individual set reviews, and limit this section to ‘regular’ parts.

Tiles

For all activities in the Adventure Camp sets, the participants can collect orange tiles, similar to merit patches or badges seen at organizations like the Scouts.

  • Tile Round 1 x 1 with Bow and Arrow print (Archery Merit Badge) in Orange (6482998), found 2x in 42622
  • Tile Round 1 x 1 with Kayak print (Kayaking Merit Badge) in Orange (6478263), found 1x in 42626

  • Tile Round 1 x 1 with Rope print (Climbing Merit Badge) in Orange (6480964), found 1x in 42631
  • Tile Round 1 x 1 with Campfire print (Fire Merit Badge) in Orange (6484357), found 2x in 42624

And there are other tiles as well:

  • Tile Round 1 x 1 with Beetle print in Trans-Clear (6490892), found 2x in 42631
  • Tile 1 x 2 with Granola Bar print in Green (6476620), found 1x in 42626, 1x in 42630, 2x in 42631

  • Tile Round 2 x 2 with Hole with Red Life Preserver print in White (6476635), found 1x in 42623, 1x in 42626

Animals

The new beaver mold is very cute, but we have more cuteness to show you!

  • Animal, Turtle mold 11603 comes with a new print, and is also new in Yellowish Green (6476618), found 1x in 42625
  • Animal, Bird, Owl, Baby mold 3753 also comes with a new print and recolor in (6480962), found 1x in 42631

  • Animal, Fox (19532) has received multiple recolors before, but this version in Reddish Orange (647825) is surely the best one; found 1x in 42624
  • Animal, Dog, Pug - Standing (24111) in White (6478249), found 1x in 42618
  • Animal, Dog, Longhaired (83188) is new in White (6480947), found 1x in 42638

  • Animal, Dolphin, Jumping (13392) in Light Bluish Gray (6476634), found 1x in 42623

The final new animal print, found in 42631, is a minifigure head in Trans-Clear showing two fireflies in a glass jar along with leaves and a stick (6490996). Or is that a stick insect?

Mini-doll highlights

Listing all new mini-doll elements here would make the article way too long, so keep an eye out for my upcoming set reviews for a closer look.

I do, however, want to mention these two elements:

  • Hair, Long Bangs Right, Clipped-Up Ponytail is new in White (6491545 | 5255), found in 42638
  • Beanie with Short Hair in Coral (6471952 | 5492) is newly molded headwear for Olly, found in 42618 and 42631

In closing, I wanted to show off this mini-doll of a new character named Sara, found in 42630 Heartlake City Water Park

By the looks of it, Sara has a scar and a medical device. I can’t find any details on the character, but after a team discussion, our best guess is that she suffers from Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) or Crohn's disease, and the scar is a leftover from a bowel resection. That would make the medical device a colostomy bag.

I simply love this small print detail that could mean the world to people affected by IBD.

Conclusion

The next wave of LEGO Friends sets will provide us with a wonderful quantity of recolors that could be useful for your MOCs. I can’t wait to see your space bases supported by the new teal stanchion with a tube-transportation system in trans-bright green.

Comparatively, the June wave is a bit light on new molds, with only the flag being useful as a structural element, although the bike frame and beaver can of course be used to dress up your displays. The same goes for all the new animal prints.

Let me know which new elements you are most excited for! Has anything caught your eye already, inspiring new builds? Or is there one that you were missing to finish that project that has been shelved until that recolor appeared?

Come back soon, as we start building the sets.

  1. The new bicycle frame looks like its basically the existing mountain bike (part 36934) but with a clip on top instead of handlebars (so it can take the friends style handlebars and work with minidolls)

    1. The colostomy bag is a Danish invention, but they're medically used worldwide.

  3. Nice review of the new parts!

The new triangular flag feels like a long time coming—could see it appearing as a sports pennant, and its shape makes me think it could be fun for many non-flag uses as well.

The new foliage recolors seem great, too. Friends has been on a roll giving us some awesome new options for plantlife this year.

And the printed parts are great too! Love the postcard-style letter, the granola bar, and the beetle (which I wouldn't be surprised to see in an Animal Crossing set in the future)! The firefly jar print is also neat, love that they printed both sides of the head piece to give the fireflies some plant life to make it feel more like home.

    1. Agree on the triangular flag, I predict lots of uses in MOCs filling in weird corners and making interesting angled and faceted constructions on space ships or speed champions scale cars particularly.

  4. I just wanted to say the stoma Sara has isn’t necessarily a colostomy. It could be an ileostomy especially being that it’s on the left side. I myself have Crohn’s disease and had to have a stoma and it was an ileostomy. Not sure if you know much about stoma’s but an ileostomy is made from the small intestine while a colostomy is made from the large intestine.
