It has been a year since LEGO® DREAMZzz™ was introduced, and on 1 August 2024 its third wave will be released. This theme has been filled with unique and unconventional models, and those require unique and unconventional elements. So, grab your pillow and join me in the Dream World.
LEGO has kindly sent us all 8 sets for an early peek. Before we build the models, I’ve gathered all new elements found across the whole wave into an overview for you.

New molds
The number of new molds introduced in this wave is the stuff of dream(zzz)s! So many in fact, that I won’t dive too deeply into most of them yet, to keep this article to a readable length. Of course we will give you the full rundown in the upcoming individual set reviews written by myself and Eero Okkonen, so keep an eye out for those.
Diving Helmet (part 5271)
I’m not sure what to call it yet, but my best guess would be some sort of diving helmet segment, or a half container with large hole and studs on the sides. The mold’s dimensions measure 2 x 4 modules and 2 ⅔ bricks tall. The element comes in Pearl Titanium (6466836 | 5271) and can be found 4x in 71483 The Never Witch's Nightmare Creatures and 2x in 71478 The Never Witch's Midnight Raven.
Eero has some ideas to use it in his creations already, so I’ll leave the full analysis to him.
Megaroni (part 5057)
Brick Round 2 x 2 D. Tube with 45° Elbow and Axle Holes at Each End (65473) was introduced in 2020. Nicknamed the maxaroni, it is pretty popular with MOC and LEGO designers alike, as it allows for curvy, flowing, organic designs. Mold 64573 received an update earlier this year in the form of 5489, making the brick a bit taller, resulting in both new functionality and the loss of existing options.
In August, the brick will have a bigger sibling; a megaroni if you like:
Brick Round 3 x 3 D. Tube with 45° Elbow and Axle Holes (Crossholes) at Each End (5057 – but note that the mold number is hidden deep inside the brick, so please forgive me if I misread it). The new version comes in strong, with 5 colors across the wave:
- Blue (6492756 | 5057), found 4x in 71480 Logan the Mighty Panda
- Trans-Bright Green (6466833 | 5057), found 6x in 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech
- Orange (6495090 | 5057), found 2x in 71484 Cooper's Robot Dinosaur C-Rex
- Reddish Orange (6491526 | 5057), found 2x in 71481 Izzie's Dream Animals
- Dark Purple (6491527 | 5057), found 2x in 71481 Izzie's Dream Animals
When I first noticed the element in product images, it appeared to be pretty big. Even when holding it in my hand, the brick seems a lot bigger than the 2x2 version. So it came as a surprise to me that the only difference between the 2 versions is the radius! Lined up next to each other (see the image above top right) the bricks have the same curved length when measured from the center hole. This means the bricks can be connected to form a circle with the same center curvature. Only the inside and outside width is different, as seen in the bottom left image above.
As mentioned, the older 2x2 version now comes in 2 variations. The new 3x3 brick lines up with the newer, longer version of the 2x2 brick. This means it doesn’t line up with the LEGO Technic connector as well (see image on the bottom right), one of the functionalities the update to the 2x2 lost compared to the older, shorter version.
The Stealing Raven (5272)
The new baddie The Never Witch has a pet raven. The bird is found in all 8 sets in Trans-Dark Pink (6466858 | 5272) with a Black marbled pattern. It’s a beautiful creature with colors befitting the Dream World, and I hope we’ll see more natural colors for this mold in the future across other themes.
Dome with crystallized top (part 5334)
The raven steals memories from dreamers, which are carried around in a new dome piece. Like the raven, the element is found in all sets, coming in Trans-Clear (6466880 | 5334):
- 1x in 71479 Zoey's Cat Motorcycle, 71480 Logan the Mighty Panda, 71484 Cooper's Robot Dinosaur C-Rex and 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech,
- 3x in 71478 The Never Witch's Midnight Raven,
- 4x in 71483 The Never Witch's Nightmare Creatures, and
- 5x in 71486 Castle Nocturnia.
The dome is 2 bricks high, which is 1 plate higher than its sibling Brick Round 2 x 2 x 1 2/3 Dome Top (30151, seen above right). I suspect this is because of its intended purpose: carrying the memories, which are printed on 1x2 tiles. I show all the different memory prints in the Decorations section further on.
Head 6 x 4 with Side Studs and Crosshole (part 5722)
The way I measured its dimensions was to attach a brick with axle hole upside down. This is attached to a 1x2 plate and then a 6 module-wide plate, showing that the width of the head is slightly narrower than 6 modules.
Above right you can see that the depth of the element from the back to the nose is 4 modules, and the height is 5 modules, or 25 LEGO Measurement Units (LMU). I’ve tried to measure the height in bricks, but 4 bricks (24 LMU) is just a hair too low to fit the head under.
I’m not sure what to make of this specialized element. It feels much too big for my taste; I would have preferred a brick-built solution.
Animal, Panda (part 106597)
The big head is accompanied by a normal-sized Red Panda, coming in Reddish Orange (6486043 | 106597). The element also appears in LEGO® City set 60424 Jungle Explorer ATV, which is already released in some regions across the world, while others have to wait until 1 August.
Large Figure Cover / Face with Two Studs (part 5276)
Based upon its usage, it is either a new Large Figure Shoulder Cover, or a Large Figure Face. The whole element fits in a 4 x 5 grid, and is 4 plates high. The cover is placed on a round 2 x 2 brick, which is recessed 1 module from the edge. The stud notches around the edge line up with this brick, but the 2 studs on top have a half-module offset from the center line. On the other axis, the studs do line up with the round brick, as can be seen in the bottom right image above.
We get 2 plain versions in Olive Green (6491523 | 5276) in 71480 Logan the Mighty Panda, and a printed version in Trans-Bright Green (6487052) in 71481 Izzie's Dream Animals.
New minifigure molds
The characters in this wave also receive new elements. I’ll leave all the newly printed and recolored elements for the set reviews, but there are new molds worth mentioning here.
Great Scott! Marty will look pretty fly in this new puffer vest / bodywarmer / gilet / boiler cover. Neckwear Bodywarmer comes in 3 colors:
- Red (6466882 | 5275) in 71484 Cooper's Robot Dinosaur C-Rex
- Blue (6491524 | 5275) in 71478 The Never Witch's Midnight Raven, 71483 The Never Witch's Nightmare Creatures and 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech
- Dark Bluish Gray (6491525 | 5275) in 71483 The Never Witch's Nightmare Creatures, 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech and 71486 Castle Nocturnia
The baddies also receive new neckwear: Shoulder Piece with Crystals in Trans-Dark Pink with Black (6508633 | 5332) can be found in all 8 sets.
Hourglasses can be found throughout this theme, and now it has become a weapon as well:
Weapon Hilt with Bar, Hourglass has a central bar between two recessed studs that point in opposite directions, and another bar projecting at 90 degrees.
It comes in 2 variations, both in Pearl Gold. The version with a Trans-Bright Green hourglass (6501460 | 5330) is used to construct a sword for Mateo, found in 71478 The Never Witch's Midnight Raven, 71483 The Never Witch's Nightmare Creatures, 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech and 71486 Castle Nocturnia. The Opal-Trans Light Blue version (6501459 | 5330) makes a sword for Cooper in 71484 Cooper's Robot Dinosaur C-Rex and 71486 Castle Nocturnia, and Izzie in 71481 Izzie's Dream Animals and 71486 Castle Nocturnia. It would be great to have this molded in a single, neutral color for uses such as architectural details, mecha or greebling.
Izzie’s version, seen in the top of the photo above, also comes with a recolored Weapon Sword Crystalized in Opal Trans-Light Blue (6489687 | 79985).
Recolors
If all those new molds are not enough for you, the sets also come with a long list of existing molds in new colors.
Starting with more macaroni! The new larger mold is accompanied by 5 recolors of the smaller 'maxaroni' sibling, all of the new 5489 variant:

Decorated elements
The final category in this overview are elements which feature a new printed decoration.
In this article we’ve already seen two new molds used as faces, but we get some more that use existing molds:
- Large Figure Shoulder Cover (21560) in Medium Azure (6487080), found in 71481 Izzie's Dream Animals
- Windscreen 6 x 6 x 3 Dome with Dual 2 Fingers (52979) in White (6487099), found in 71480 Logan the Mighty Panda
- Large Figure Shoulder Cover (21560) in Dark Blue (6487033), found in 71479 Zoey's Cat Motorcycle
Aside from sporting a new print, these 3 elements are also recolors of their mold.
I’ve mentioned that the raven steals memories. These memories are represented in the form of prints on Tile 1 x 2 (3069), and we can find 7 unique prints across the sets:
- Trans-Bright Green (6487036), found in 71478 The Never Witch's Midnight Raven and 71486 Castle Nocturnia

Closing thoughts
The August 2024 wave of LEGO DREAMZzz sets features a massive amount of new elements to spark your creativity, and certainly some that may prove too specialized for use elsewhere.
Stay tuned for our upcoming reviews of the individual sets to see how these new elements are utilized, as well as a closer look on the minifigures that I have left out of this overview.

Ive been pushing for the 3x3 'roni to be called "gigaroni", and move to calling the 2x2 variant "megaroni" (its not really maximum roni anymore so it feels wrong to keep calling it "maxaroni"). This also leaves room for a hypothetical future 4x4 terraroni, and so on
ReplyDeletei think we can compromise by calling the new one "2max2roni"
DeleteNice parts overview! I've been waiting on reviews of these sets for a while, both for better analysis of the new parts and for a good look at all the alternate builds.
ReplyDeleteThe megaroni/gigaroni/whatever you choose to call it seems like a great piece, and a nice addition to that parts family. It suits the Dreamzzz design language but is basic enough to work for all sorts of potential uses.
The raven is another nice animal mold, and could probably fit in well with modern day or historic themes if recolored to a more realistic combo like black and dark grey or possibly black and titanium metallic. The red panda mold is good too, though compared to some other animal molds it's less likely to be usable in many other colors or for other creatures. Still, it adds to the overall menagerie.
The crystallized dome is also interesting, and I'm glad to learn that it's taller than the similar version (making the difference more than just cosmetic).
The large red panda head mold is a little specialized, but I don't really mind it—it reminds me a bit of the head molds for some of the Lego Elves buildable creatures, and there wasn't really a part that'd work for that particular head shape the way the CCBS armor piece used for previous Dreamzzz creatures has for those animals. The face/shoulder shell used for the Z-Blob and Mighty Panda sets seems more versatile—similar in concept to the recent ones used on Marvel action figure sets but sufficiently different from those to offer some interesting potential uses.
Not a lot to say about the minifigure molds. The puffer jacket is cute if quite bulky for an outerwear piece like that, and the spike/slime shoulder pad used for the Never Witch's minions reminds me slightly of the tattered armor pieces from the Ninjago "Possession" wave. The "hourglass hilt" piece seems plenty interesting and versatile even if the hourglass motif is quite specific to Dreamzzz.
As far as recolors are concerned, it's nice to see the updated "maxaroni" piece showing up in more colors. More interesting to me is that windscreen piece used widely in this wave of Dreamzzz sets. Despite showing up in a City set first, I wouldn't be surprised if it was designed with this theme in mind since its aesthetic matches the smooth, bulbous aesthetic of many other Dreamzzz parts. In terms of size it's quite similar to the more angular 6x8 windscreen that preceeded it, but the more rounded shape is interesting and the thinner, more simplified connection points at the top feel in some ways easier to use than the bulky "Technic brick"-style connections of the earlier part.
The jagged crystal blade piece is a little surprising to see in opalescent trans-pink, since it had already been available in the similarly suitable regular trans pink in Ninjago. Still, I won't say no to a new recolor. The gold wheelchair is an awesome recolor too, and I'm glad that part is starting to show up in so many colors!
The printed parts are neat—some a little specialized, but I love the differently colored memory tiles as "collectibles" and the various printed eye tiles/slopes are neat too (until this review I didn't realize that the Nightmare Creatures set featured two differently colored eyes like the Never Witch and her minions have as minifigures). And DoomBlob, like his doppelganger, seems to be a nice versatile print that's really cool to get in multiple sizes!
"diving helmet segment"? it's clearly half-a-cauldron
ReplyDeleteMmh, not sure : a cauldron would not have that hole on the side i guess 🤔 .. about new parts and recoloured, there are plenty of interesting parts, i'm puzzled about one : the 6x6 dish, in trans opal.. i wonder how it looks in real (because it seems different, imo, between box picture and review picture)
DeleteIt definitely seems like it's designed to be a cauldron, since it's used that way in the sets, but it does look way more like a diving helmet on its own. In its "cauldron" form the holes are just filled in, but 71483 also uses it as a torso piece with limbs coming out of the holes, so it seems like they aimed for versatility overall.
DeleteI've always had a fascination with larger specialized ("juniorized" as some ass-stick-havers might say) pieces and the ways one could repurpose them, so a lot of these new molds are tickling that part of my brain again. Love the new roni and cauldron pieces. Surprisingly not as interested in the new armor piece, though my first thought is it's make a pretty good frog head flipped upside down. And, as ever, relieved that the CCBS shoulder armor survives another wave. Hoping we'll get some of the newer colors unprinted some day.
ReplyDeleteAs for the sets, the degree they've been able to make the alternate models a core part of the build is impressive. Some of the changes are simple, sure, but overall it's a great gimmick to have and fits the theme's theme well.
There's a mistype in the para about the small Red Panda, I think. It looks to be Reddish Orange, not Reddish Brown.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I'm terrible with that!
DeleteThis is a great month coming, and a mistake, it doesn't look like the bright green figure cover is in Izzie's animals
ReplyDeleteI love that the bigfig head is getting more color variants.. i wonder if they will make hair pieces for them?
ReplyDeleteThe new hourglass sword handles look usefull for a great many other things.
At least 5 of the 7 printed memory tiles are gonna make for some interesting moc uses for me
Very nice

Sorry that anon comment was me got ahead of myself. Lol but one last comment. That half cauldron piece looks like it too will see some unorthadox uses. I myself will see to that too lol
ReplyDeleteDish 8 x 8 Inverted, Solid Studs, Squared Anti-stud Underside, Anti-Studs on Edges in Trans-Bright Green (6488774 | 35154), found 1x in 71485 Mateo and Z-Blob the Knight Battle Mech
ReplyDeleteMaybe it is just me but looks to be 10x10?
Yeah that's the 10x10 version (35326 instead of 35154).
