Minifigures

The minifigure characters from Lego set The Nightmare Before Christmas

Happily, there are a whopping 8 characters supplied in the set: one animal, 6 minifigures and one brick-built character. Sadly, it seems creating a LEGO Oogie Boogie and Doctor Finkelstein was not within budget.

Lego versions of Sally, Jack Skellington, Zero the dog, and The Mayor from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Sally, Jack Skellington, Zero the dog, and a brick-built figure of The Mayor. Of course, the Mayor is two-faced.

It's surprising to see a new mould for Zero, but on the other hand, how could you really represent it at that scale with bricks? Consequently it is wonderfully detailed – and adorable.

It's great to see the long minifigure legs used for Jack! They're in Black for the first time, and of course are printed.

Lego versions of Lock, Shock, Santa Claus and Barrel from The Nightmare Before Christmas

Lock, Shock, Santa Claus and Barrel are also included.

Shock's hat is Minifigure, Hair Combo, Hair with Hat, Mid-Length Scraggly with Molded Floppy Witch Hat (20606 / 88085) recoloured to Medium Lavender.

The candy cane looks like the one from the LEGO Minifigures range.

The models

The three sections that make up Lego set 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas

The set is a combination of three models: Spiral Hill, Jack Skellington’s house and Halloween Town Hall.

We're happy to note the gates on Jack's house are Pearl Dark Gray – not seen in this colour in sets since 2011.

Lego Spiral Hill from set 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas with Sally and Jack Skellington minifigures

The iconic Spiral Hill overlooks a graveyard packed with quirky headstones. The full moon is represented by a new element: a plastic disc around 18 modules in diameter. It is presumably stiffer than the usual foils used for wings and sails; perhaps it is the same material used for LEGO® FORMA? (Remember that? It was only four years ago!)

The moon is connected with a bar element via a small central hole.

Jack Skellington’s house seemingly defies gravity thanks to the use of inverted slopes and walls attached to hinge bricks. The dark brown window panes are stickered, meaning they are unprinted for the first time – the ones in Barad-Dur were printed.

The roof can be removed to reveal his Christmas formula.

Leg omdel of the Town Hall from 21351 The Nightmare Before Christmas

The Town Hall looks to be the most complex – and fun – of the models to build.

The solution for the crooked columns is quite simple though, and still allows you to remove the building to reveal the basement.

The rear of the Town Hall houses the lectern from which Jack delivers his famous speech.

Another excellent accessory included is the walking bathtub.

With its predominantly grey and black colour scheme and quirky style, and few new pieces of interest, I don't imagine this being a set many will want to pick up if they don't know and love the film.

For the rest of us though, the quality and detail – and proliferation of minifigures – in this set are unmissable!

  1. Honestly, for 200 euro, this is a bit underwhelming. Just 2 buildings and an undersized spiral hill...

They could've included a set of 2 or 3 heads with alternate expressions for Jack, like the ones they used to animate the movie.
And very strangely, Sally doesn't use the hair piece they made specifically for her CMF?

I don't know. I'll get it eventually because I'm a fan, but it feels incomplete and a little low-effort.
