Review: 76923 Lamborghini Lambo V12 Vision GT Super Car from LEGO® Speed Champions

Posted by Thomas Jenkins

In June, LEGO® Speed Champions returned with a second wave of sets for 2024 and today we're looking at the futuristic 76923 Lamborghini Lambo V12 Vision Gran Turismo. It's a one-of-a-kind LEGO Speed Champions set for a one-of-a-kind hypercar – there exists a single Lamborghini V12 Vision in the entire world.

Recolours

To create this special car, plenty of elements have been recoloured in olive green: a unique colour choice among LEGO Speed Champions sets.

The following are new-for-2024 elements, recoloured in olive green:

4 different olive green lego pieces
  • 2x  Slope Curved 1 x 4 with Stud Notch Left in Olive Green (6493676 | 5415)
  • 2x  Slope Curved 1 x 4 with Stud Notch Right in Olive Green (6493675 | 5414)
  • 3x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Olive Green (6493682 | 5091)
  • 3x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Olive Green (6493683 | 5092)

Last year's LEGO Speed Champions' wedges are gradually becoming available in more colours:

2 pairs of different, long poinbty lego pieces coloured olive green
  • 1x Wedge Sloped 1 x 5 x 1 1/3 Left in Olive Green (6493679 | 3388)
  • 1x Wedge Sloped 1 x 5 x 1 1/3 Right in Olive Green (6493680 | 3389)
  • 1x Wedge Sloped 2 x 5 Left in Olive Green (6493677 | 3504)
  • 1x Wedge Sloped 2 x 5 Right in Olive Green  (6493678 | 3505)

Let's move on to some bling in the form of a pair of brackets in an unexpected recolour:

various pearl gold lego pieces: 2 kinds of bracket, a hinge brick top, and two wheel rims.
  • 2x Bracket 1 x 1 - 1 x 2 in Pearl Gold (6493686 | 79389)
  • 2x Bracket 1 x 2 - 1 x 2 in Pearl Gold (6493687 | 99781)
  • 2x Hinge Brick 1 x 2 Top Plate Thin in Pearl Gold (6495153 | 3938)
  • 4x Wheel Rim 24 x 12 with Black Tyre in Pearl Gold (6503580 | 72206)

Finally, a lone black recolour:

A u-shaped black lego plate
  • 3x Plate 2 x 3 with 1 x 1 Cutout in Black (6493691 | 73831)

Decorations

The LEGO Lambo V12 Vision set contains 19 printed elements (20 if including the one spare 1x1 quarter round tile), of which 12 are unique designs.

Recolours with printing

various angled lego pieces with printed decorations. Most are olive green, one is transparent black with olive printing.
  • 1x Slope Curved 2 x 1 with Stud Notch Left with Black Stripe print in Olive Green (6523571 | 29120)
  • 1x Slope Curved 2 x 1 with Stud Notch Right with Black Stripe print in Olive Green (6523574 | 29119)
  • 1x Slope Curved 2 x 2 with Stud Notches with Lamborghini Bull print in Olive Green (6532408 | 66956)
  • 1x Wedge Plate 4 x 4 with 2 x 2 Cutout with Black Stripes print in Olive Green (6504780 | 43719, 41822)
  • 1x Windscreen 6 x 4 x 1 Hexagonal with Handle and Olive Green Stripe print in Trans Black (6504779 | 27262)

New prints on existing elements

4 lego mudguard pieces in black but the rim is printed olive green
  • 4x Wheel Arch, Mudguard 4 x 2 1/2 x 1 with Olive Green Stripe print in Black (6504865 | 98282, 28579)
It might have been nice to have these recoloured entirely in olive green, but the print on black goes some way to create the illusion of sharp and thin fenders.

6 different lego pieces with printing
  • 1x Slope Curved 2 x 1 with Stud Notch Left with Olive Green print in Medium Azure (6523573 | 29120)
  • 1x Slope Curved 2 x 1 with Stud Notch Right with Olive Green print in Medium Azure (6523572 | 29119)
  • 1x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Left with Olive Green Print in Medium Azure (6510760 | 5091)
  • 1x Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Right with Olive Green Print in Medium Azure (6510954 | 5092)
  • 4x Tile Round 2 x 2 with Black/Silver Rims print in Pearl Gold (6472269 | 14769)
  • 2x Tile Round 1 x 1 Quarter with Black Stripes print in Olive Green (6504781 | 25269)

Sticker sheet

The sticker sheet boasts 28 decals which is probably a little above average for a LEGO Speed Champions set.

In my review of the 76922 BMW M4 GT3 & BMW M Hybrid V8 Race Cars earlier this year I noted that there were at least a couple of frustratingly small stickers included in that set. The Lambo continues that trend: those two half plate-thin red stickers are used as tail lights, and are placed on a 1x3 round plate. A real challenge to line up perfectly!

Minifigure

The single minifigure sports a complementary olive green jumpsuit with a Lamborghini bull logo emblazoned on the breast. It's another first, as all previous Lambo-driving minifigures have been clad in black.

The build

At 230, the piece count is on the small side for a LEGO Speed Champions set and I felt that the build was over relatively quickly. Even with this low part count there are still plenty of clever building tricks to enjoy.

The LEGO Lambo V12 Vision GT has an impressively low profile. So low in fact, that the cockpit has been designed with a novel approach.

The windscreen and bonnet flip open to allow the minifigure to sit inside. A heavily reclined seat helps fit the figure inside but the designers have also used 1x4 panels laid on their sides with brackets to provide a super low and thin chassis/ seat for the driver.

There isn't room for much detail here, but it's an impressive solution used to fit the driver in such a small space.

I found this to be a particularly satisfying section of the build with the aforementioned 1x4 panels slotting neatly into the cutout of the newly recoloured 2x3 black plates (73831) and the light gray D-SNOTs (3386) keeping the elements used for the headlights at just the right angle.

Moving to the back of the LEGO Lambo Vision, I like how the designers have taken advantage of the unique geometry of the 1x5 wedges to create the tapered lines on the car. It's actually the flat inside surface rather than the wedge portion of the element that is put to work here. These are set in place with the new gold hinges, just visible through the gaps in the body work, which look exactly like the engine of the real car.

There's some real brick-trickery at work on the rear of the vehicle. A subassembly plugged into the back creates both the spindly spoiler and contributes to the iconic Y-shaped tail lights.

The thin half-plate profile of the red tail/fin element (44661, 35265) is complemented by those previously mentioned miniscule red stickers. While they were a pain to align nicely, the result is worth it. I love the view of the back end of the car.

In the same area there is some interesting parts usage for the exhausts/ diffusers featuring cleavers and minifigure gloves.

While a few of the decorations like the tail lights generally enhance the finished Lamborghini Lambo V12 Vision GT,  there are a few instances where I think the decals detract from the overall look of the vehicle. Firstly, the greens on the stickers aren't a perfect match for the colour of the bricks.

Second, at the front of the car, the Y-shaped headlights are recreated using medium azure tiles and wedges with an olive green print to blend them into the vehicle's bodywork. It's an interesting idea but the problem here is that the print can only extend so far towards the edge of the element, which leaves a blue outline around it resulting in that key Y-shape diffusing into the rest of the car.

Closing Thoughts

The Lambo V12 Vision GT is an ambitious subject for a LEGO designer to tackle: a hypercar from the future with lots of sharp edges and smooth curves. The finished model is an admirable attempt and many of the solutions work wonders (like the mindbending spoiler), while some aren't quite perfect (like the headlights).

For me, the stickers weren't enough to detract from the building experience and I'm left with a cool looking model that represents the source material pretty well. It's a welcome addition to the LEGO Speed Champions garage with a unique design that looks more like a spaceship than a sports car, and a unique paint scheme to match.

Speaking of, I will swiftly be disassembling this set to harvest all those new olive green elements to feed my MOCs!

  1. A major point of Pantone is to allow companies to match colors: the blue of the logo on the milk carton matches the blue on the truck because they're all pantone number whatever, even though they're on different materials. It's mystifying how LEGO group has consistent issues matching colors between stickers and bricks (minifig paint, maybe more expected since the paint is somewhat translucent, but even that is odd)

  2. Thanks for showing what the model looks like without stickers! If I were to get this set I probably wouldn't apply them, but lots of other reviews out there only showed it fully stickered.

  3. To me it's the best Speed Champions car so far. When I was building it I was surprised at how much MOC-like it was, and how they managed to fit a minifig in this. It's also far away from the usual box-like car building experience.
