10391 Over the Moon, the LEGO® "Piece by Piece" set from Pharrell Williams

The LEGO® Pharrell Williams collaborative set 10391 Over the Moon has been revealed, in advance of the October release of the film Piece by Piece, which features LEGO animation.

The model is made up of three parts. 

The black shuttle with drum-lacquered gold windscreen symbolizes limitless potential, transporting you anywhere you can imagine. The vibrant colours of the jet stream symbolise imagination and creativity fuelling your way. 

Finally, 51 different minifigure heads are included on an "abacus", over 30 of which have been designed specifically for this set. This represents the widest range of minifigure skin tones ever included in a LEGO product, with seven in total. 

The Piece by Piece movie 

Focus Features’ Piece by Piece debuts in US theatres on 11 October, and internationally from 6 November 2024. 

Directed by Academy Award® winning filmmaker Morgan Neville and featuring new original music from Pharrell, it is a unique cinematic experience that invites audiences on a vibrant journey through his life.  Piece by Piece defies genres and expectations to "transport audiences into a LEGO® world where anything is possible".

What does the set mean? 

The infinity of space showed Pharrell that there are no limits to what we can explore. He believes that curiosity and creativity are essential life forces in all of us and credits them as the building blocks of his success. Pharrell likes to ensure that everyone can feel represented, all of which all ties in nicely with LEGO ethics!

Pharrell’s collaboration with the LEGO Group will extend to his non-profit foundation, YELLOW, which works to even the odds for children through education. This collaboration will see the launch of a new LEGO Build the Change global challenge, bringing more creative play to kids worldwide.

Designer George Gilliatt

The Model Designer from The LEGO Group was George Gilliatt, who spoke about his involvement and credits the team, including creative lead Fiorella L. Groves, and Ashwin Visser for the graphic design.

He reveals the development process was unlike the company had undertaken before, "with talented individuals from both the LEGO Group and Pharrell's team also coming together to make this product really take-off". 

The personal passion is evident! "When I was 19 I stood in a large crowd in London watching Pharrell perform live from about 50 metres away," George explains. "If you told me back then that only a few years later I would be sat right next to that incredible performer designing a LEGO set together I definitely wouldn't have believed it!"

He pointed out that the windscreen canopy has been made in drum-lacquered gold for the first time ever.

It’s one of the largest elements we have ever applied this lacquering process to, and it certainly stands out as a focal point to the whole model.

Building the jet stream at an angle was the primary creative challenge. “Many different techniques were trialled," says George, "including making the entire bottom of the model out of slope bricks, but in the end, we settled for creating some triangles out LEGO Technic™ triangles that happened to perfectly match the angles of some of our slope bricks.”
