Parts review: LEGO® Fortnite™ October 2024 sets

For nearly three decades LEGO® bricks have appeared in video game form, and more and more often we're now seeing the reverse. The latest entertainment behemoth to make the leap from console to brick is Fortnite, which received an all-LEGO mode in December 2023. Now, the physical half of this bilateral collaboration between The LEGO Group and Epic Games is dropping into our world.

The physical sets aren't limited to LEGO Fortnite source material, however. The sets span recurring themes seen across Fortnite's best-known game mode — Battle Royale — and other various official and player-made Creative modes.

Speaking of creativity, there are over 100 noteworthy elements in this wave of sets for builders to re-use in creative ways. We'll cover the multicoloured builds of LEGO Fortnite in a later article, focusing first on one of the most varied assortment of new parts seen in a single wave.

77070 Durrr Burger

Recoloured parts

The silly burger chain Durrr Burger has been a staple of Fortnite since the game launched in 2017 so naturally this wave's designers Erik Jensen and John Cuppage paid homage to it.

Even the smallest LEGO Fortnite set doesn't disappoint when it comes to recoloured parts. Durrr Burger's life-size buns are bright orange, a more fitting choice for Fortnite's colourful palette than tan would be. Keeping in the exaggerated colour style of Fortnite, Durrr Burger's tongue isn't just pink, it's made using a vibrant coral curved panel.

Hidden inside the build, Durrr Burger's derpy eyes angle outward with internal connections made with these small bar plates. The pearl gold shade for this part is in three recent sets with more arriving on October 2st in 10370 Poinsettia.

 

 

77071 Supply Llama

Recoloured parts and print

A minifigure-scale LEGO Supply Llama was provided to influencers at the debut of the LEGO Fortnite game mode, and now a relatively jumbo 24 cm (9.5 in) tall Supply Llama arrives made up of even more purple-hued parts.

Most of the recolours here make up the Llama's angular face which is accented by shocked round eyes. Surprisingly few parts with a simple center black dot on white exist. A 2 x 2 boat stud version formed the similar eyes of Heihei the rooster in last year's 43226 Disney Duos and several board game sets from over a decade ago included a 2 x 2 square tile as the ace face on the games' dice.

A handful of other rare elements return in Supply Llama, most notably the medium lavender brackets from a single 2012 LEGO Friends set. The similarly coloured cheese slopes arrive in their greatest quantity yet, to give the piñata-styled Supply Llama a rough papier-mâché exterior.

 

 

77072 Peely Bone

77072 Peely Bone is a fruitful cornucopia which takes the Victory Royale amongst the other sets in terms of new elements. 

Despite the Battle Bus (discussed further down) catching our eyes with plentiful new minifigures, Peely Bone is ripe with two new moulds, over 20 recoloured elements and more than three dozen other rare parts.

New moulds

While not first introduced in Peely Bone, these new-for-2024 parts are the first time New E has reviewed a set containing them. Currently you'll only find them elsewhere in pearl gold in LEGO Star Wars 75398 C-3PO.

As expected of curved LEGO slopes, the curves are arcs of circles which fit nicely into the existing system. Unusually, these slopes and quarter domes have true 2-module radius semicircular edges all the way to the corners, since a 2 x 2 x 1 ⅔ space is a perfect cube, thanks to LEGO math.

No other "quarter dome" part is a perfect octant — not the name for the fictional LEGO energy company, but for one-eighth of a sphere. There's now a quarter dome for every radius from 1 to 5; most of which are squished to be oblate rather than perfectly spherical. All are great parts for adding smooth curves to LEGO builds, but the perfect symmetry of the R2 octant might puts a smile on the faces of shape aficionados.

All five shapes do come in white, but I had to borrow the R4 from Durrr Burger to complete the lineup.

Recoloured elements

The skinned half of Peely Bone is bursting with yellow bricks, two dozen of which are newly recoloured in yellow. These are mostly newer shapes, but a few twenty-year-old rotation bricks also go bananas for the first time.

New Elementary and our readers spotted most of these when LEGO Peely Bone was announced; now a few more pieces are visible, like the unusual 3 x 3 corner plate.

Peely's skeleton was also picked apart in the same announcement. Most of the recoloured white elements come with at least a few of each.

Peely's guts complete his Fortnitemarish appearance, comprised of new pink elbows. There's lots of reddish brown on this rotten banana, including the sole of his sole boot made up of double-arrow tiles.

Anyone hoping to build a complete, boneless Peely will need to do some custom work to complete the smile. The paint launcher's stark colour scheme of bright light orange with lime green come together to make a fun print, of which two are included. LEGO Mixels included a similar printed eye tile, though that version's dot is over a stud rather then centered between two as in Peely Bone's instances.

A broad assortment of new pieces like the banana bunches introduced in LEGO Donkey Kong sets return, as well as some small pieces from yesteryear like the telephone handset. A minor variant of the Barraki Eye with a hole in its bar has been appearing in sets lately, but this rare yellow is the older solid style.

Peely Bone gives us the most 1 x 3 Technic bricks in a single set, though these are brand new having just appeared in this year's summer LEGO Sonic the Hedgehog sets.

A surprisingly number of pieces are rare in bright light orange too, some of which go in Peely's abdomen while others make up the paint launcher.

In rotten banana tones, the tan paraboloid sees its first use outside of two LEGO Super Mario Bowser sets.

The orange Technic liftarms have been exceptionally rare since their 2002 debut, now back in two 2024 sets.

Most of these last few rare parts are hidden inside Peely Bone. The two turquoise inverted slopes are few compared to the 22 in LEGO Art 31211 Macaw Parrots, which Tamara Dadswell built into a cute pair of dragons for us.

Several elements also haven't been seen in several years: the dark tan wedge returns from from 2015, tan pulleys return from 2013, and the yellow mechanical arms return from 2014.

The 2 x 2 x ⅔ plate with 2 studs on the side has been common in cool yellow since 2020, but these are the updated version, Design ID 4304 with the studs raised slightly.

New minifigures

Nine minifigures drop with the Battle Bus and even more impressive is that more than half of them come with new headwear moulds. 

Designers Erik Jensen and John Cuppage explained that few shortcuts could be taken in recreating these minifigures, which fans would expect to see recreated exactly as seen in LEGO Fortnite game modes. The video game versions tend to be highly detailed as game developers aren't limited to printing and other production constraints The LEGO Group must consider. Some of the finest details are missing on their physical versions; even so, numerous dual-moulded pieces and thorough printing are seen throughout this lineup.

Peely Bone is just one of Peely's many visages. Adventure Peely is one of the newer Peelies added to Fortnite, and this printed banana head (6491057 | 5277) allows more mobility than the previous LEGO banana costume.

Most Fortnite outfits have selectable styles in-game, and fittingly, Cuddle Team Leader has both a dual-moulded dark pink and white helmet (6491088 | 105547) and hair included.

Meowscles looks like he gives very firm cuddles. His head (6491035 | 5481) is new in white plastic with strong printing all-around, and Meowscles' tattooed right arm is the only printed arm in this set.

As impressive as Raven's dual-moulded black hood and dark blue cowl are (6491097 | 105650), the face print is simply menacing. Raven also gets this set's exclusive leg side printing.

Drift is the last minifigure with a uniquely moulded head accessory; his dual-moulded magenta and white mask and hood combo (6491007 | 105646). His alternative style also includes a recoloured wide wavy mohawk in tan (6517271 | 3758), combined with a single-sided face.

Battalion Brawler and Brite Bomber are just two of dozens of styles based on the characters Jonesy and Ramirez, and even as relatively simple minifigures, they still sport plenty of detail. Battalion Brawler's dual-moulded grey and light nougat arms are new and suit his casual style. Brite Bomber's armour is printed with metallic buckles and emblazoned with stars, hearts, and a fanciful llamacorn.

Cube Assassin and Trespasser Elite come from The Last Reality, from whence a sentient corruption cube entered the events of Fortnite. While the relationship between the cube — affectionately nicknamed Kevin — and these shady characters is unclear, both minifigures have cube-themed trans-dark pink heads.

The large tapered panels were a natural choice for the Battle Bus's balloons, as over half of its set appearances have been as a minifigure-scale hot-air balloon. Lots of other blue-hued recolours are here, like the left train door, but any builders who need symmetrical train doors in blue will have to keep waiting. These curly flames are now in their second blue shade and appear outside of the LEGO Monkie Kid theme for the first time.

The square bar plate was plentiful in old light grey in the late 1990s, but this is only its second time in the modern light bluish grey. Other rare elements here come en masse, in particular the window panel and green plates used as bus seats in the finished model.

More parts in-game

In true Fortnite reality-blending fashion, each set grants players access to the LEGO Fortnite Operation Brite starter pack, a mix of in-game LEGO Fortnite decorations and a Brite Agent outfit usable across LEGO and most other Fortnite game modes. "Brite" it is indeed, with plentiful teal, magenta, and dark purple elements throughout the collection.

The LEGO Builder app QR code on the front of each instruction booklet is the key to unlocking this content, similar to the process to redeem 20 LEGO Insider points per set. While not live yet, it seems registering these sets to builders' LEGO accounts will generate a code to enter on fortnite.com/redeem.

This starter pack has been available for US$3.75 since March 2024, and any players who already own this content sadly aren't eligible for an alternative item. LEGO Fortnite is a co-operative game mode though, so we're hoping extra codes can easily be shared with friends. This pack (possibly temporarily) leaves the constantly-revolving Fortnite shop on October 15th, but the set QR codes will grant the same pack until 30 September 2028.

Dropping soon

It's not often that every set in a wave has something new to offer builders. It's even rarer that a licensed intellectual property is priced similarly to The LEGO Group's in-house themes, as investigated by Kev Levell recently. Combining those factors, LEGO Fortnite sets might even catch the eyes of LEGO fans who haven't played the game.
