Best new LEGO® parts of 2024

The end of the year is typically a time for reflection, and for us New Elementarians, that means looking back at some of the coolest new LEGO® elements that were released in 2024!

Although a couple of sets are yet to be released before year end, this is a great time to reflect on the elements you should be adding to your collection: Thousands of elements will be deleted from LEGO® Pick a Brick (PaB) on 3 December, and also the new elements from August 2024 sets were added to the store a little early. 

On top of that, the Black Friday and Cyber Monday LEGO toy deals commence midnight Friday 29 November, providing another chance at the LEGO Retro Record Player and LEGO Holiday Train gifts with purchase (GwP) as well as the release of 10335 The Endurance, with its awesome GwP. 

Important tip: If you're struggling to meet the thresholds for some deals (or you simply are a typical New Elementary purchaser of bulk Pick a Brick where sets don't matter!), it seems that all parts on PaB now count towards thresholds. The caveat seems to be if you purchase only "Standard" elements – these on their own will not count towards your threshold, but as part of a greater order, they will. 

But which elements to buy? With so many on offer, it can be daunting process. That's why we're giving you our favourites: the kind of pieces we think every builder should consider adding to their collection!

Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 1 2/3 Quarter Circle with 1 Cutout (part 5906)

After Rylie showed the team this perfect sphere she made with 8 of the new dome top elements, I'm convinced I need some in my collection. 

This cross section reveals the equally satisfying solution used to create this wonderful little tablescrap, and reminds me to add some extra D-SNOTs to my PaB shopping list... and add eggs to my supermarket shopping list.

Currently the White (6556056) version remains exclusive to the awesome set 77072 Peely Bone, but Pearl Gold (6555140) from set 75398 3-CPO is available now on PaB.

Plant, Banana Peel (part 5215)

An element so good, it featured in our workshop at Skærbæk Fan Weekend as well as the subsequent After-Party Fest, and also inspired this year's New E. building contest: Mind That Banana! 

The contest closes on 1 December, so you still have time to make something with a chance to win some very apeeling LEGO Fortnite prizes! Check our announcement post for all the details.

Including the Peely Bone minifigure element, 2024 actually brought us three new banana related elements, which was may more than we expected! Unfortunately, the LEGO Fortnite minifigure element is IP locked but the two other parts, Plant Banana Peel (5215) and the arguably less versatile Plant, Banana Bunch (3566) are currently available on PaB.

Flag 2 x 4 Triangle (part 5555)

Another intriguing new element, the triangular flag also featured in our workshop at Skærbæk Fan Weekend this year.

In his contribution to our ongoing After-Party Fest, Kev came up with the interesting tablescraps above.

Reddish Orange elements

In 2024, the LEGO colour palette was expanded with a brand new colour, 402 Reddish Orange. New colours can often take a while to become numerous enough to warrant using them in your own creations, but that's not the case here. Over the course of this year just over 100 elements have been produced in this new shade, 97 of which are currently up on PaB! 

Ghost Effect with Bar (5500)

This element was used so well in 76294 The X-Mansion to represent Gambit's telekinetic powers, it had to appear on this list. You can check out Thomas Jenkins' review of the set to see the piece in action.

76294 The X-Mansion was only recently released, so this Trans-Pink (6501313) colour remains exclusive to that set, but it is currently available in Trans-Red (6512330) on PaB, having debuted in the LEGO® NINJAGO® theme much earlier in the year. 

This ethereal element might also make a great compliment to the Dungeons and Dragons series of minifigures to illustrate some sort of magical spell. Perhaps multiples could be combined into a swirling magical vortex?

3 x 3 Macaroni (5152)

Until earlier this year, builders had long-lamented the 3x3 gap in the macaroni brick family. This brick, which arrived in both White (6507854) and Trans-Clear (6507853) this year, will be very useful in building curved structures, particularly 6 x 6 cylinders. Both colours are on PaB now.

Brick Round 3 x 3 D. Tube with 45° Elbow and Axle Holes (Crossholes) at Each End (5057)

We'll have to come up with new names to differentiate all the macaroni elements now in the LEGO inventory! Could this be a rigatoni? Cannelloni? Perhaps a big mac? 

Whatever it's called, this XL version of the 2x2 macaroni or 45 degree elbow (which also received an unexpected update this year, worth adding to your shopping list – take a look at our post here) has been appearing in numerous LEGO® DREAMZzz™ sets this year, and all 5 colours are on PaB now!

Certianly one of Eero's favourite new elements of 2024, he used the element to great effect in his beautiful Zero Suit Samus model. Take a look at his review of 71480 Logan the Mighty Panda to see some inspiring NPU.

Tile 1 x 2 with Stud Notch Left & Right (5091 & 5092)

2024's LEGO® Speed Champions sets were generous with useful new parts this year. This pair of notched tiles are particularly useful elements, not just for smoothing out the bodywork of sportscars but also for creating tiled mosaics in sets such as 21061 Notre Dame Cathedral and 31213 Mona Lisa. 

A testament to their usefulness, these elements have appeared in 16 colours in 33 sets over the course of the year and they are all currently available on PaB!

Slope 18° 2 x 1 x 2/3 (part 5404)

A long overdue update to the classic "cheese grater", we can finally build MOCs with smoother-than-ever-before 18 degree slopes. We are grateful for the grateless cheese grater, especially as it is available in 9 colours on PaB!

Tom Loftus provided us with a surprisingly deep dive on this wonderful new element earlier this year. Take a look at his article about techniques with 5404.

Plate Special 2 x 2 with Horizontal T-Bar Underneath (5066)

A somewhat overlooked new-for-2024 element, this part garnered a lot of attention from our readers after Tom Loftus investigated it for our After-Party Fest series of articles. 

It shares a lot of DNA with Minifig Shield Rectangular with 4 Studs (30166), a favourite part among LEGO designers for its usefulness in creating slopes and angles. It's in danger of being usurped by this newer 5066 which is more compact with a smaller 2 anti-stud footprint, and its uncapped bar ends underneath offer a wider range of connections.

You need this in your SNOT toolbox, and the element is available in Black, Bright Light Orange, and Dark Bluish Gray on PaB now.

Animal, Red Panda (part 108567)

2024 might have been the year of the goat but we got plenty more (and far cuter) LEGO creatures too. Unfortunately, the gorgeous capybara (5422) remains exclusive to the LEGO® Disney™ sets in which appears, but on Pick a Brick our favourite to expand your menagerie of LEGO critters is the new Red Panda.

Like most animals on Pick a Brick, it is expensive. Indeed, one reader found a set it comes in, 60424 Jungle Explorer ATV, discounted to about the same price! But we couldn't overlook our new little chum.
