The official LEGO description says, "The 2001-piece set includes seven minifigures, including Bella Swan, Edward Cullen and Jacob Black, who also appears in his wolf form. Builders can enhance the drama with Bella’s iconic red truck and a towering tree perfect for Edward and Bella’s unforgettable treetop moments. The model house has familiar features for fans to delight in, such as a grand piano in the living room and planters on the balcony."
The set keeps to the movies for its reference points, rather than the books.
Laura Perron: "I had read the books growing up. I was in high school when the final film came out so I was just the prime target for this franchise. I was always a Team Edward girl, I can't lie.
"It was very nostalgic to revisit the films. They have a really strong 'meme culture' around them: they're campy, they're dramatic, they're romantic, they're just so much fun to watch over and over again."
The house
Laura Perron: "It is a wonderfully minimalist house where the vampires of The Twilight Saga reside. It's filled with windows because this is the one place where they don't have to hide.
"This was an interesting challenge to design, because the house is based on a real house in Portland. It's a beautiful piece of architecture, and so that's the house we know and love. But in the second film, the production team used the same exterior shots, but they used a completely different interior built on a soundstage.
"And then in the third movie, they're like, 'Okay, we're not gonna use that house anymore, but we're gonna rebuild in a soundstage the first two floors, with the ability to pack it up into a truck to move and film in Baton Rouge'. Long story short, the movie changes ever-so-slightly in every single film, including the layout. So it was an interesting challenge to capture the essence in the details, while remaining faithful to the film franchise, but making a cohesive design within the space."
Laura Perron: "Our top floor is Edward's bedroom. We have the chaise longue, some CDs on the bookshelf, as well as the graduation cap mural along the stairs – very important, because they graduate from high school a lot."
Laura Perron: "Next we have the living room and a full kitchen. There is a salad bowl for Rosalie to hold. There's a nod to baseball, which is the Cullen's favorite pastime. There's lots of Easter eggs in here!"
Laura Perron: "This floor was definitely the hardest challenge, because there's a lot of thin elements like this window cutout here, which is beautiful, but we had to make sure it was strong and a good building experience. So it took a lot of iterations. The angle as well – just getting it as clean as possible – and particularly the fence corner; I spent a fair bit of time on that. I think a few strategic angles keeps it engaging so it's not just a box.
Laura Perron: "Then we have the ground floor. We have a beautiful grand piano for Edward to play Bella's Lullaby. We also have a table referencing Bella's birthday scene in the second film. There's so many details in here, I don't want to spoil it all for you. Make sure you watch the movies!"
Minifigures
Laura Perron: "In this universe, the vampires' skin is in such a way that when they enter sunlight, their skin sparkles. That's why they live in Washington, where it's very cloudy and rainy, because they're trying to live normal lives in high school and to be part of the community."
"We did a neck bracket so that Tim and Bella can hang on to the treetop, reenacting that scene."
Jacob has two wigs to depict his long and short hairstyles... as well as his wolf form of course!
Decorations
Laura Perron: "There are stickers. The decoration that is not a sticker is the eyes on the wolf, which is one symmetrical print, which I think is quite useful."
That single piece is Slope, Curved 1 x 1 x 1 1/3 Corner Round (1871), which is not new in Reddish Brown, but of course new with this exclusive print.
Recolours
Laura Perron: "No new elements are used in this but there are a few recolours, primarily in the dark orange colour – a 1x12 plate and the hinge plate come to mind."
The New Elementary team took a close look at the PR images and found a few more of those recolours! We're sure you can spot them too in the images on this page:
- Window 1 x 2 x 3 Flat Front (60593) new in Dark Orange
- Window 1 x 4 x 3 (60594) new in Dark Orange
- Door, Frame 1 x 4 x 6 (60596) new in Dark Orange

Looks amazing, honestly. I watched the movies with my GF back then and despite all the "hate" the franchise got back then (and still gets sometimes) I found these movies quite enjoyable.
ReplyDeleteI just wonder why they decided to not include - of all characters - the CGI Baby as a babyfig?
"...they graduate from high school a lot." ??? Who exactly is the target market for this? And how can they be avoided? Asking for a friend.
ReplyDeleteNot sure what the issue is with that specific statement — I've never read or seen any of the Twilight series, but to me that just sounds like something an immortal, ageless vampire who appears vaguely teen-aged would have to do to maintain a façade of normalcy over the course of the 20th century.
DeleteAnd the target audience is very obviously fans of the Twilight books and/or movies. From the sound of it you've probably already made a point to avoid that fanbase, so this set is hardly gonna change that.
And will you be buying the set?
DeleteThanks. Is the garage door openable ?
ReplyDeletenope, and there appears to be no garage behind it from I can see.
DeleteAgreed, behind the garage door is actually the room with the piano, the wall with the book case is actually the garage door.
DeleteI’m torn on this set. I’m not a Twilight fan, but this is a pretty neat modern house on its own. The price is a bit hefty—so I may wait to see it in person and then see if I can find it on sale in the months to come.
ReplyDeleteGreat review and I always love seeing your posts that include designer insight. A+
