We have already taken a in-depth look at all the new elements found in January 2025's LEGO® DREAMZzz™ sets but there's plenty still to see, as I continue my individual set reviews.
Next up for review is 71490 Izzie and Bunchurro the Gaming Bunny; a set that has some new moulds, a new print and quite a few recolours. Is it worth the price tag?

There is a small sticker sheet with four stickers included in the set. I've gone all in for these sets and applied the stickers as they add detail but it did pain me to sticker up those new elements!
Minifigures
There are two new figures in the set; the minifigure is Izzie and she has a Cyberling for company. Izzie is unique to this set but the Cyberling also appears in 71497, their new prints are listed below.Izzie

Instructions
There's one instruction booklet which I want to mention for two reasons. Firstly, this set has two options for building an accessory for Bunchurro, although the initial part of the instructions to build the minifigures, their weaponry and Bunchurro itself come first.

It seems that Mr Carrot is unaware his best friend Bunchurro is actually planning to eat him for supper later. |

Secondly, there's some nice graphic artwork in these instructions too. I pointed this out in my earlier review of 71491 Mateo with the Z-Blob Action Race Car , although I noticed LEGO highlighted this on the 71490 product page.
Be part of the action - the set includes story-led building instructions, encouraging kids to immerse themselves in the dream world adventure.
The build
The first part of the build is to weaponise the figures and create the Dreamling Carrot.
The carrot uses a sticker for the face and is a comical little character.
One small issue I had was the fact that Izzie's shoulder armour has a stud at the rear which cannot be used as her hair covers it. This seemed an odd choice for her, what's the point in having an unusable stud?
Bunchurro the Gaming Bunny
Bunchurro is the 'cool version' of Bunchu the Bunny, with a video game screen on its chest and wearing gaming controller gloves and sneakers. Bunchurro is common to both builds, it is just the accessory that has two options.
The use of all the ball and socket joints, not forgetting the hinge joints hands, make Bunchurro a very stable, poseable figure.
Bunchurro looks a little less polished from the back. I think adding a few inverted curved slopes would have been good to give the rear some shape.
Build options
At this point there are two options in the instructions; a skateboard or a jet pack for Bunchurro the Gaming Bunny.
Skateboard
The skateboard is a simple but effective build although only one of Bunchurros sneakers comfortably connect onto the board at one time.
Bunchurro is pushing the board here even though there's some jet action happening, otherwise a ballet pose on one leg is needed to ride the board.
Jetpack
The jetpack uses many of the same elements as well as an additional couple of Technic axles and connectors.
When the jetpack is on, its bulk highlights just how two-dimensional Bunchurro appears. The chest and shoulder area looks bare with the neck socket so obvious.

While season 3 of LEGO DreamZzz television show has not aired yet, even the instructions artwork show Bunchurro to have more of a dark azure vest than just a breastplate. Having said that, a lot more elements would have been required, and a resulting price hike would have been necessary.
The two open studs on top of the light bluish grey bracket can be used to connect Izzie to the top of Bunchurro's jetpack. Hold on tight... well there's nothing to hold on to but that's okay, I trust the clutch.
Conclusion
Good things first; there are five new moulds in this set although only one is exclusive. As well as the new moulds, there's a new print and a host of recolours across a fun palette. There are also three other characters to build and use for interactive play, not least of which is a dreamy carrot .Bunchurro is a robust, super poseable figure and will be popular with children for this reason. The options for the accessory is an added play factor to extend the building fun, although the skateboard is a clear winner in my eyes.
There's only really one big issue and that's the two-dimensional feel of Bunchurro, view from the front only please! But let's remember that this set costs US$19.99/ £17.99/ 19.99€/ AU$29.99 and more elements would mean a higher price tag. I'm also not a fan of Bunchurro's chinless head shape but it did bring a new printed POOP mould.
These issues do not dilute the fact that this is a good set for parts if you need them in these colours and provides some new moulds to play with. The build will not be for everyone, well not without a bit of fleshing out, but a highly poseable figure with some other characters to interact with is a winner for children.

Similar correction to the one that's been made on several other Dreamzzz reviews—the centurion helmet is Pearl Dark Grey/Titanium Metallic rather than Flat Silver/Silver Metallic.
ReplyDeleteThe 3x6 curved half-circle slope is a good piece for prints like this. It reminds me a little of the 4x8 half-circle slope used for the buildable Mickey and Minnie Mouse set, though that one hasn't been seen since (maybe partly because instead of just using prints that one was actually dual-molded with a combination of white and black plastic to define those classic 1930s cartoon eye shapes). The corner brick with curved top is another great part update, even though it looks like most other themes like Friends are still using the previous version.
This is a nice cute little set. I like that despite the gaming focus across this wave, you still see the individual characters' styles and preferences, with Bunchurro seeming like a "kawaii" Tamagotchi-like character to suit Izzie's interest in animals and cute toys. The comic illustrations showing the carrot character do make me wish it had an alternative face, and on that note it's a little odd that the face is stickered—a lot of the time even sets that use stickers use prints for essential features like character faces.
I still haven't gotten any of this year's Dreamzzz sets because I had thought I had heard that there were going to be some March sets that I wanted to wait on the reveal of to plan my purchases... does anyone know if any of those are still happening? I had heard that the biggest of those rumored sets (a $100+ location set like Castle Nocturnia) had been cancelled, but I hope that doesn't mean that this is the last wave altogether. This wave doesn't even have all of the main characters yet.
yeah, I should really correct that to save folks saying the colour every time.
