The March 2025 wave of LEGO® Technic sets consists of 5 vehicles. I’ve already looked at the 2 large F1 cars, and now I turn to the 3 smaller sets, where we find 2 fast cars and a dump truck.

We start off with the only set in the wave that isn’t focused on going fast. With 462 parts, Tipping Dump Truck is also the smallest set in the wave, but part count is not necessarily a limiting factor on build and play fun.
Elements of interest
- 2x Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 9 x 2 x 3, Arched Top #42 in Black (6408177 | 2459)
There are no printed elements in the set, but we do get a small sticker sheet. On the one hand I like the generic "MOVE & TRANSPORT" and "TRUCK" branding, but I would have liked some Easter eggs here. I don't think designer’s initials still being included in decorations, but perhaps there is some second meaning to MT?
An alternative I think would be nice could be a reference to, for instance, the elephant found on the LEGO® City 2024 construction vehicles like 60409 Mobile Construction Crane (read Tom's review of set 60409). But I might be overthinking this.
Although the set lacks many new elements, there are some existing ones that are worth pointing out:
- 2x Technic Beam Frame 3 x 19 with 2 Center Cross Beams, 3 Openings Thick in Light Bluish Gray (6393210 | 67491) has only appeared in 42180 Mars Crew Exploration Rover
- 4x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 1 x 1 in Dark Blue (6434570 | 89679) had only been seen in a single set, 42154 2022 Ford GT until this month where it also appears in 42206 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 F1 Car (read my review of set 42206)
- 3 x Technic Pin Connector Round 1L [Beam] in Yellow (6431481 | 18654) was introduced in January and has appeared in 3 sets since
- 2x Technic Panel Fairing #7 3L Very Small Smooth, Side A in Dark Blue (6415056, 6510989 | 2387), and 2x Technic Panel Fairing #8 3L Very Small Smooth, Side B in Dark Blue (6415057, 6513872 | 2389) appeared in 2 sets in 2023
- 3x Technic Panel 3 x 11 x 1 in Dark Blue (6151062 | 15458) has not been seen since 2018
The build
The build process is pretty straightforward. We start at the cabin with a steering mechanism underneath. Between the steering and the seats is a pretty large open space that might fit an engine, but it is left empty. The front is built separately.
The most "LEGO Technic" aspect of the build is found at the back, where a mechanism is constructed to tip the bed using a linear actuator. The mechanism works fine, but it takes quite a few turns to raise the bed. Some additional gears to speed it up would be welcome.
The tipping bed is mostly made out of panels and comes together quickly. Just press it on, and all that is left are the tyres.
Let’s see the tipping in action. Note that I hooked up a Power Functions motor to speed things up; this is not included in the set.
Conclusion
The finished model looks decent enough for a set of this size. I would have liked some more LEGO Technic details, like an engine or maybe the steering wheel hooked up to the steering mechanism.
In comparison, last year's 42167 Mack LR Electric Garbage Truck (read Alex's review of set 42167) has a similar part count, 503, but has more interesting play features. There is another major difference: whereas that licensed truck has an RRP of €34.99, LEGO expects the dump truck to be worth €49.99. For an unlicensed set, with just a single recolor, no new molds or decorations or other parts that justify a price bump, that is just ridiculous. I just don’t see where the added value comes from.
So, a decent build, but if the set has your interest, wait for a clearance sale.

This Toyota is the second LEGO Technic set based on the Fast & Furious franchise, with two LEGO® Speed Champions also found in this ‘family’. I’m not very familiar with the movies; all I know is that there are a lot of fast cars, and the Toyota Supra MK4 is driven by Paul Walker in the first two instalments.
This LEGO Technic version fits in scale with many previous LEGO Technic cars, known as the Car Transporter scale, meaning it will fit on the 42098 Car Transporter from 2019 (read Alex's review of set 42098).
New molds
Beam 2L with Axle (7244)
- 2x Beam 2L with Axle in Orange (6540720 | 7244)
I’m not sure what to make of this one. I’m sure this new connector will come in handy in some situations, but it does feel pretty random. The same mold can also be found in red in 21355 The Evolution of STEM (see Thomas' review of set 21355).
Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 5 x 1 (7101)
- 5x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 5 x 1 in Orange (6523805 | 7101)
- 2x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 5 x 1 in Light Bluish Gray (6523808 | 7101)
Like the beam with axle, this extended addition to the 2-wide LEGO Technic panel family is not unique to this set either, as it appears in 42205 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, 42206 Oracle Red Bull Racing RB20 and 42207 Ferrari SF-24 as well, albeit in different colors.
Recolors
We get a nice selection of elements appearing in new colors.

- 2x Technic Pin Connector Hub with 2 Axles in Light Bluish Gray (6538176 | 27940)
- 18x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 1 x 1 in Orange (6523967 | 89679)

Decorations
- Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 9 x 2 x 3 with print in Orange (6541698)
- Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 9 x 2 x 3 with print in Orange (6541705)
The other decorations are handled by a sticker sheet.
Other elements of interest
- 1 x Technic Panel Curved 3 x 13 in Orange (6135061, 6239886 | 28923)
- 2 x Technic Panel 3 x 7 x 1 in Orange (6358256 | 71709)
- 4 x Technic Beam 3 x 3 T-Shape Thick in Orange (6305545 | 60484)
- 9 x Technic Beam 2 x 3 L-Shape with Quarter Ellipse Thick in Orange (6494204 | 71708)
- 5 x Technic Panel Fairing #8 3L Very Small Smooth, Side B in Orange (6476406, 6513883 | 2389)
- 3 x Technic Panel Fairing #8 3L Very Small Smooth, Side B in Trans-Clear (6426596, 6513876 | 2389)
- 3 x Technic Panel Fairing #7 3L Very Small Smooth, Side A in Trans-Clear (6510993 | 2387)
- 5 x Technic Panel Fairing #7 3L Very Small Smooth, Side A in Orange (6494203, 6511001 | 2387)
The build
In the front we find an engine using the new crank disc and pistons connected to a differential on the rear axle. The steering axle is routed alongside from the Hand of God to the front. Note that the steering wheel is mounted right next to the gears operating the steering. I wish the two would be connected.
With the chassis done, the rest of the build process involves adding the bodywork, including this Transformers trick.
The front utilises some regular parts for the grill, nicely lining up with the panels above and beneath. The headlights are made out of transparent panels, with black axles instead of the regular red. There is an ugly gap underneath the lights though.
In the back we find more regular parts for the booth, which features a speaker and I assume the NOx. It feels a bit minimalist, but still nice to have at least some details.
This scale has proven to be tricky to capture the looks of the real-life models, but the designer did a good job here.
The finished model looks sharp in orange. My biggest gripe would be the stickers on the side, which are cut to cover several parts, leaving gaps in between, and ruining the artwork.
Overall: a decent set for fans of the franchise or cars in general. As I said before, I prefer LEGO Technic sets to have more functions, but here it is just the basic engine and steering. With 810 parts for a RRP of €59.99, the price is decent too for a licensed set, especially compared to the dump truck.
42205 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray

- DKK 529.95 on LEGO.com Danmark
The final set depicts another fast car, this time not tied to a movie but a ‘regular’ branded one. The set name doesn’t mention a specific version, but going by a quick search, we’re dealing with the 2025 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray.
New Molds
Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled Quadruple - 60° (6611)
Set 42205 brings us a new sibling, with unprecedented features: Technic Axle and Pin Connector Quadruple - 60° is the first in the family to have 4 axle holes, and it is the first to have acute angles, set at 60°.
We get two of this new family member in light bluish grey here (6508519 | 6611).
The angle means it doesn't line up with any of the existing standard connectors. The two who come closest are #4 with 135° and #5 with 112.5°. [Edit: Yesterday, a similar new Technic connector was spotted in the upcoming LEGO® Botanicals set 10347 Petite Sunny Bouquet.]
A better match is the aforementioned 10288, whose triple connectors have a 120° angle, which allows for a nice diamond shape to be created.
The acute angles of 60° mean we can theoretically create an equilateral triangle. I say theoretically, as connecting the parts will require a fair amount of bending, especially when using short axles, so I can’t recommend it. If you’re willing to use force, the resulting structure will be very sturdy, and I expect lining up multiple triangles will result in a strong truss.
Unfortunately I only have 2 of this mold currently, so you’ll have to imagine the line being expanded.
Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 5 x 1 (7101)
I’ve already mentioned Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 5 x 1 in set 42204 Fast and Furious Toyota Supra MK4 above. Here, we get 2 in yellow (6520937 | 7101).
Recolors
Like the Toyota, we get a decent selection of elements in new colors. With a yellow car, it’s not surprising to find most recolors are in this color:
- 2x Technic Panel Curved 3 x 9 in Yellow (6533797 | 5427)
- 2x Technic Panel Car Mudguard Arched 9 x 2 x 3 in Yellow (6533798 | 42531)
- 1x Technic Panel Fairing #10 Medium Triangle Smooth in Yellow (6533793 | 2403)
- 1x Technic Panel Fairing #9 Medium Triangle Smooth in Yellow (6533796 | 2395)
- 2x Technic Tooth 1 x 3 with Axle Hole [Hollow Underside] in Yellow (6535751 | 48267) is up for debate: the older mold variation has appeared in Yellow in a couple of sets, and the new version appeared around the time these sets came out, so they could also have contained the current version. Still, it would be the first appearance in 6 years.
- 1x Slope Curved 2 x 2 with Stud Notch Right in Yellow (6506376 | 5093). The Left version already existed thanks to the covered side of 77072 Peely Bone (read Zach's review of set 77072)
- 2x Slope 18° 2 x 1 x 2/3 in Yellow (6535750 | 5404)
- 7x Technic Beam 1 x 2 Thick with Pin Hole and Axle Hole in Yellow (6533794 | 60483) had me surprised to find is new.
The previous addition to the family comes newly in Black:
- 4x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled #7 - 168.75° in Black (6523971 | 4450)
Decorations
- 1x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 3 x 1 #3 Angled with Corvette Symbol print in Yellow (6540231)
The other stickers are handled by this sticker sheet.
Other elements of interest
- 2x Axle Hose, Soft 11L in Yellow (6533799 | 32199) has appeared in a single set in 2003
- 1xTechnic Beam 1 x 7 Thick with Alternating Holes in Light Bluish Gray (6523570 | 2391)
- 4x Technic Axle and Pin Connector Toggle Joint Smooth in Yellow (6469823 | 3182)
- 1x Slope Curved 2 x 2 with Stud Notch Left in Yellow (6506377 | 5095)
- 2x Technic Pin Connector Hub with 3L Axle in Light Bluish Gray (6484902 | 5713)
- 1x Technic Panel Fairing 2 x 1 x 1 in Black (6396456 | 89679)
The build
We start with the V4 engine, where the new connector is used to hold the beams holding the pistons. It provides a quick and sturdy build.
In the front, a neat trick is used to slope the front end, with towballs fixing the panel with emblem in place.
More angled tricks can be found in the doors, where a triangle holds the top of the door at an angle.
The rest of the build is mostly standard for a car in this scale, with my favorite part found at the rear, where many connectors and small panels create the required shape.
I’m a bit split on the end result. The shape of the Stingray is pretty complex, but the designer did a decent job fitting it in this scale. The doors with air intakes on the side are well done.
The front end looks a bit weird though, with the hood not lining up with the angled front. The rear end looks a bit messy.
What are your thoughts? Is this a good match, or do you think there is room for improvement? With 732 parts for a RRP of €59.99, the Stingray is priced similar to the Supra.
Closing Thoughts
That concludes our look at the March 2025 range of LEGO Technic sets. I think it’s a great wave for car fans, and I enjoyed building them, but I personally need more Technic in my Technic.
I mentioned 42098 Car Transporter earlier. This set is marked as the standard scale for many sets that have come out since its release. Seeing that was back in 2019, and the popularity of that set in general, I think it’s high time for a remake!

MT = "Model Team", maybe?
ReplyDeleteIt should be possible to make the triangle without bending axles, right? It'd require pushing in all three corners simultaneously, which shouldn't stress any pieces but might take another set of hands.
ReplyDeleteYeah, I was just thinking the same thing!
DeleteHi, I'm new here and I have a question. You put the Beam 2L with Axle under "new molds" but then said that it had already appeared in 21355 The Evolution of STEM. does "new mold" just mean that it's a recently created mold? Thanks!
ReplyDeleteBoth sets were released onbthe same day
DeleteThanks for these reviews. The price/part seems all over the map! I am glad to see a return to more rack+pinion steering! The linkage types on some recent smaller <$100 Technic models has too much slop and is pretty annoying.
ReplyDeleteOn the Corvette Stingray, those are microphones, not towballs holding the printed logo panel in alignment at the front, right?
I am wholly with you in wanting "more technic in my Technic"! I've just never warmed to the panel-style of construction for styling's sake. Give me old skeletal-but-functional Technic any day, I buy it for the functions not for the looks! It's a shame all that part count going to panels that could have instead gone to mechanism.
Vehicles that need to look like the real thing should be made from system, imo. I will concede that all the arcs and curves of panels and not needing trans clear windscreens has allowed Technic to achieve shapes that would be tricky in System.
I'm counting 8 fake pistons in the Stingray, so I'm thinking that's a V8 engine, not a V4, right?
ReplyDeleteWeighing in on the question of function vs form: I /like/ the various body panels and the clever geometries and clever parts usages sometimes used to position them. But I agree that I want more functions from my Technic sets than we tend to get these days, particularly for smaller sets.
Part of the problem IMHO is the focus on cars—at anything less than the largest scale, most working functions of cars beyond opening doors/trunk/hood, steering, suspension, and drivetrain just aren't possible. I think we've only seen one vehicle with door latches (the recent Range Rover) and I don't think we've seen door locks. I'd love to see windows that roll down, adjustable "power" seats, maybe tunable suspension, but there's just not much else a car is going to provide at the level of abstraction of mechanisms at this scale of Technic.
Which is why I wish that Technic would do more not-cars. The Heavy Duty Tow Truck from 2021, the Airbus helicopter from 2022, and the 3 larger Lego Space-themed sets (large rover, VTOL, and basic orrery) from last year are all, IMHO, way more interesting than any passenger vehicle Lego Technic has provided in the last decade (including the 1:8 supercars). I really think that the emphasis on real-world vehicles (often licensed) instead of on mechanisms, and particularly the emphasis on cars, has done far more to diminish the appeal of Technic sets than the emphasis on shaping and body panels has.
