Revealed: 10348 Japanese Red Maple Bonsai Tree and 10349 Happy Plants from LEGO® Botanicals

Posted by Tim Johnson

LEGO® Botanicals are retreading old ground and breaking fresh ground with their latest two sets to be revealed, and while both share Japanese influences, they couldn't be more different: a big new bonsai tree, and tiny little kawaii-style potted plants who are best buddies and love you very much.

Lego Botanicals 10348 - reveal

It's been just over four years since the release of 10281 Bonsai Tree, and given the variety of possible bonsai out there, it seems fair enough to see a new one arrive from the LEGO Botanicals team. It couldn't be more different!

New moulds

There is a new 3-leaf plant piece in red, visible on the treetops. This exciting and useful addition to LEGO foliage shares design DNA with the 7-swordleaf piece (10884) which also adorns this tree, as well as the bamboo brick round 1x1 with 3 leaves (30176).

Harder to spot is a new long curved macaroni tube, in tan, among the upper branches. It looks like it is a 1-module diameter tube, angling at 45 degrees so that 8 make a circle. This will be massively useful for building, and we are going to need many more than come in this set!

But what will it be nicknamed? Penne?

Recolours

Most notably, the existing 8 colours of Plant, Leaves 6 x 5 Swordleaf with thick open O clip (10884) are joined by 3 more: orange, reddish orange and red

We also see a mould premiering in May in LEGO Botanicals 10347 Petite Sunny Bouquet, now recoloured in tan. This LEGO Technic connector has 3 axle hole prongs, with one set at 60° / 120° to the vertical – similar the new Technic Axle and Pin Connector Angled Quadruple - 60° (6611) minus one prong.

In the above picture, just below the branching axle connector, you can also see Horn Stacked 45 deg. with Axle Connectors (2142) recoloured in tan.

At the base we can see:
  • Brick Arch 1 x 3 x 1 2/3 Curved Top (5843) in dark green
  • Brick Round Corner, Curved 2 x 2 x 2/3 Quarter Circle (5852) in lime
  • Hair Small Tuft (68212) in olive green which will also appear in June in 76974 Brick-Built Mosasaurus Boat Mission
  • the "macaroni" Brick Round 1 x 1 diameter Tube with 90 Degree Elbow 2 x 2 x 1 and Axle Holes at each end (25214, 38896) colour-changed to tan, also visible among branches.

Conclusion

We are thrilled by this beautiful botanical, filled with so many exciting parts. At US$59.99 / AU$99.99 / £54.99 / €59.99 / CA$79.99 for 474 pieces, it's a higher price per part than your usual LEGO set but as a gorgeous display model containing useful new parts and bulk recoloured pieces for your models, it's worth it.

As if these weren't adorable enough...

Pull out their plants and you will see little roots!

Recolours

The wider pot sitting down needs these pieces in bright light blue to make the pot:

  • Tile Round 2 x 2 (14769, 83056), finally!
  • Tile 2 x 6 (69729) comes both unprinted, and printed with a face.
  • Brick Curved 2 x 4 x 1 (5842), which is one of the curved bricks that has been shortened by one plate in 2025, but the old version (6081) didn't come in bright light blue.

Also needed for its plant are these thin round elements in dark green:

  • Road Sign Clip-on 2 x 2 Round (30261, 65570) which has only appeared it black, white and yellow before.
  • Shield Round Bowed (75902) which has previously only come unprinted in black, red and dark bluish grey.

As for the yeller feller, the plant needs nothing new but the pot sports some new bright light yellow recolours:

  • Tile Special Round 2 x 2 Inverted (3567) is exciting to get; only the 5th colour since its 2023 introduction.
  • Brick Round 1 x 1 diameter Tube with 90 Degree Elbow 2 x 2 x 1 and Axle Holes at each end (25214).
  • Brick Curved 1 x 2 x 1 with Curved Top (5841), another of the "2025 shortened curved brick" family, as is the following:
  • Brick Curved 2 x 4 x 1 (5842).

Conclusion

Happy Plants will likely leave people divided. It's great to see some lower-price LEGO Botanicals sets arrive, but if you don't think it's just the most adorable thing having these two watching you at your desk, then US$19.99 / AU$29.99 / £17.99 / €19.99 / CA$24.99 for 217 pieces is likely not a sum money you will fork out. But the parts are great if you like these colours, and quantities are decent.

The creative direction is interesting: they feel a bit like LEGO® Creator sets, even if the price certainly doesn't. They might touch that pure LEGO feeling in the target audience, who may view the price as nothing much to shell out.

Both sets arrive on 1 June 2025, but you can pre-order now.
